Seigneurs D’aiguilhe Castillon Bordeaux

This is the second wine from Château d’Aiguilhe, in the far east of Bordeaux. Proprietor and winemaker Stephan von Neipperg is also responsible for the greatness that lies in each bottle of Château Canon-La-Gaffelière, Clos l’Oratoire, Château Peyreau and La Mondotte.

The cepage is overwhelmingly Merlot, with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc. The property dates back to the 12th century and is linked to the Knights Templar. The current château, a “fortified farmhouse,” was built in the 13th century. The Right Bank terroir, with its clay-limestone soils, produce outstanding Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes.

2015 Sassodisole Brunello di Montalcino

2015 Michele Chiarlo “Le Orme” Barbera d’Asti Superiore

The wine producing firm of Michele Chiarlo was founded in 1956 by the sole and present owners, Michele and Giuseppina Chiarlo. Son of over seven generations of esteemed wine growers, Mr. Chiarlo is today one of the most respected producers of the fine wines of Piedmont and a leading figure in its viticultural industry.

In 1995, Michele Chiarlo acquired the estate of Azienda Agricola Aluffi in Castelnuovo Calcea, considered to the most beautiful and prestigious property in the heart of the classic Barbera d’Asti zone. The estate is comprised of two separate vineyard holdings, La Court and Il Castello, with a total area of 62 acres of which 50 are planted in Barbera vines, quite extensive for this area. The principally southwest and easterly-exposed slopes support superb, calcium and mineral rich soils which are of ideal composition for the production of great Barbera d’Asti.

Garnet in color, the wine is medium bodied and robust with rich, ripe cherries and earth on the nose and an elegant palate.

Pairs well with a wide range of dishes: chicken scallopini with sage and wild mushrooms, farfalle pasta with pork sausage and broccoli rabe and grilled or roasted red meats.

” The 2015 Barbera d’Asti Superiore Le Orme is an absolutely delicious, entry-level Barbera from Chiarlo. Blueberry jam, plum, spice, licorice and lavender infuse this pliant, expressive Barbera. I can’t think of too many wines that deliver this much pure pleasure at such a modest price. Readers looking for a budget-friendly red will find much to admire” Vinous
