Ruffino NV Prosecco DOC

Ruffino Prosecco has been produced from grapes grown in the hilly area of Valdobbiadene, which is the most historically vocated region for the production of Prosecco.

Bright straw yellow with fine bubbles. The bouquet is fragrant and intensely fruity. It shows clean notes of apples, pears and citrus, accompanied by slight hints of hawthorn, wisteria and elder. Crisp, clean and delicate with fine bubble caressing. Intense sensations of apples and peaches drive a pleasant aftertaste, that is reminiscent of fruity and floral aromas.

Ideal as an aperitif; it is very versatile as a food companion. Ruffino Prosecco perfectly matches with pizza, fish and shellfish dishes as well as white meat dishes.

One of the world’s most popular and playful sparkling wines, Prosecco is a specialty of northeastern Italy, spanning nine provinces of the Veneto and Fruili-Venezia Giulia regions. A higher-quality version that must meet more stringent production requirements is known as Prosecco Superiore and must come from the more rugged terrain between the towns of Valdobiaddene and Conegliano.

Prosecco can be produced as a still wine, a semi-sparkling wine (“frizzante”), or a fully sparkling wine (“spumante”)—the latter being the most common. While it is typically produced in a “brut” (dry) style, its fresh and fruity character makes it seem a bit sweeter than it actually is. “Extra brut” styles, incorporating higher levels of residual sugar, are quite popular, however.

2015 Michele Chiarlo “Le Orme” Barbera d’Asti Superiore

The wine producing firm of Michele Chiarlo was founded in 1956 by the sole and present owners, Michele and Giuseppina Chiarlo. Son of over seven generations of esteemed wine growers, Mr. Chiarlo is today one of the most respected producers of the fine wines of Piedmont and a leading figure in its viticultural industry.

In 1995, Michele Chiarlo acquired the estate of Azienda Agricola Aluffi in Castelnuovo Calcea, considered to the most beautiful and prestigious property in the heart of the classic Barbera d’Asti zone. The estate is comprised of two separate vineyard holdings, La Court and Il Castello, with a total area of 62 acres of which 50 are planted in Barbera vines, quite extensive for this area. The principally southwest and easterly-exposed slopes support superb, calcium and mineral rich soils which are of ideal composition for the production of great Barbera d’Asti.

Garnet in color, the wine is medium bodied and robust with rich, ripe cherries and earth on the nose and an elegant palate.

Pairs well with a wide range of dishes: chicken scallopini with sage and wild mushrooms, farfalle pasta with pork sausage and broccoli rabe and grilled or roasted red meats.

” The 2015 Barbera d’Asti Superiore Le Orme is an absolutely delicious, entry-level Barbera from Chiarlo. Blueberry jam, plum, spice, licorice and lavender infuse this pliant, expressive Barbera. I can’t think of too many wines that deliver this much pure pleasure at such a modest price. Readers looking for a budget-friendly red will find much to admire” Vinous

93 Points – James Suckling! “Layered and rich with blueberry, black cherry and mushroom character. Full body, polished tannins and a flavorful finish. Bright and structured.”

Brunello di Montalcino is made 100% from Sangiovese. Traditionally, the wine goes through an extended maceration period where color and flavor are extracted from the skins. Following fermentation the wine is then aged in oak.[6]Traditionally, the wines are aged 3 years or more “in botte“—large Slavonian oak casks that impart little oak flavor and generally produce more austere wines. Some winemakers will use small Frenchbarrique which impart a more pronounced vanilla oak flavor. There is a middle ground where the wine is aged in small barrique for a short time and then spends a longer sojourn in the traditional botte.[
