The Brotte family’s 2016 Domaine Barville bottling proves that rich and complex Chateauneuf-du-Pape doesn’t have to break the bank. Their classic Southern Rhone red melds the fleshy fruit flavors and plush texture of Grenache with a punch of peppery spice and floral notes contributed from Syrah and Mourvedre.

History and Vineyard
Domaine Barville is Laurent Brotte’s family estate, named Barville, after their ancestors. The 15ha vineyard is situated on the west side of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and is composed of 7 parcels spread over two of the best areas of the appellation – the clay and pebbles of Pradel and the shattered limestone soils of Beaurenard. The vines have an average age of 35 years and, at an elevation of 100m, dominate the Rhone River, which, with the local Mistral wind, brings an exceptional healthy micro-climate. A very warm climate and south-facing position are ideal for perfect maturation and concentration of the berries.
